SUMMARY:
- The NIRA Executive Director Rosemary Kisembo revealed that students who possess National Identification Numbers and meet the lower age limit can now visit any NIRA office to kick start their ID process.
The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has called upon all students who are at least 16 years of age to apply for National Identification Cards (IDs) while it’s still early.
The NIRA Executive Director Rosemary Kisembo revealed that students who possess National Identification Numbers and meet the lower age limit can now visit any NIRA office to kick start their ID process.
“For the learners with National Identification Numbers (NINs) who are now 16 years old and above, they are now eligible to acquire national identification cards and are, therefore, advised to visit any NIRA office to update their information in the National Identification Register for their national identification cards to be processed and printed,” she said.
In 2017 NIRA carried out a countrywide exercise of registering and allocating NINs to all the learners in schools.
However, as revealed by Kisembo in the statement issued on February 25, they continually received complaints about those who never got, and mismatch of details of those that were registered.
Kisembo advised learners whose NINs were not generated due to failure to meet the requirements to visit NIRA offices with copies of National Identification Cards of their parents and an LCI letter stamped by either a GISO or DISO.
NIRA has also printed on its website NINs of all the learners who were registered in 2017 and asked schools and parents to crosscheck the list to ensure their learners/children get their NINs.
