Kalangala District gets research textbooks to enhance academic performance.

Books for Development, an NGO based in America, in collaboration with Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) have donated textbooks to Kalangala District, with a goal of boosting academic performance in areas that are hard to reach.

Mark Cotham who is the president and founder of Books for Development, revealed in his speech during the ceremony, that their primary aim is to support students gain more information on different topics through research.

“These books cater for all ages, teachers too can base on them to make research and references while teaching the young generation,” said Cotham.

The event took place at the public library based at Kibanga primary school resource center.

Rajab Ssemakula, the Kalangala District Chairperson, appealed to teachers to make proper use of these books to further benefit other teachers from Island Schools.

“We thank the founders of books for development for thinking about hard-to-reach districts such as Kalangala whose reading culture has been low due to shortage of such books,” Rajab added.

Kalangala has had one public library; however, it collapsed after readers disappeared with all the books that were meant to be in it.

Leaders have been told to set guidelines that will help in managing the books to the utility of everyone in need of them.
