Over 5000 new teachers will be recruited after president Suluhu issued a directive to recruit additional teachers as soon as possible.
According to the Deputy Minister in the Office of the President, in charge of education, Hon. David Silinde, over 5000 new teachers will be recruited by the Ministry of education by the end of June 2021.
The directive was given during the swearing-in ceremony of the different key leaders in the office of the president.
The recruitment processes will last two months, during which time newly qualified teachers shall submit their documents to the ministry of education.
According to the Hon David Ernest Silinde, the office of the regional administration and local government is cooperating with the Office of the President Personnel and Good Governance.
Together with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in ensuring that the guidelines for the recruitment are followed.
It should be noted that Hon David Ernest Silinde is the current MP for Mbozi West and also the deputy minister in the president’s office for regional administration and local government.
This is the first recruitment the Ministry is doing in 2021 to fill the gaps created by the new schools and transfers.
It should be noted that between December 2015 and September 2020 the government has hired 10666 primary school teachers and 7515 secondary school teachers.
According to Hon David Ernest Silinde, this is to address the emerging shortage of teachers and also to place them in areas of greatest need.
He further added that starting from December 2015 to September 2020, the Njombe town council has employed 21 primary school teachers and 111 secondary school teachers.
While transfers are some of the most commonly used methods of recruitment, sometimes the ministry has to massively recruit new teachers.
This is usually to replace non-existent teachers; new schools need teachers, retiring teachers, among others.
According to information from the ministry, the Office of the President together with the office of regional commissioners has been conducting internal transfers.
This has been done through the relocation of excess teachers, commonly found in urban areas.
Besides, employing teachers in schools with a severe shortage, the ministry priorities schools found in rural areas.
