The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced that 2022 candidates will not require their parents’ National Identification cards to register for their final examinations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday April 5, 2022, UNEB said the candidates and their parents don’t have to worry about the new measure.
UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo said no one will be disqualified from registering for the 2022 examinations because of a National Identity Number (NIN).
“This is to allay the fears of candidates, parents, guardians, and school administrators that no one will be disqualified from registering for the 2022 examinations because of a National Identity Card. The normal registration process is currently underway until May 31 while late registration which attracts a surcharge, will take place in June 2022,” Odongo said.
He, however, clarified that New Vision reported that its only students enrolled under the revised competence-based lower secondary school curriculum who will be required to obtain the learners’ ID Numbers (LIN) using their parents’ NINs.
He said for the 2022 candidates the data required at the primary school level is the learners’ authentic biodata, at secondary is the learners’ index number and the year of sitting for the preceding series of UNEB examinations.
“UNEB, therefore, encourages parents and school administrators to support all the 2022 candidates to study and register in time for their national examinations. They do not have to submit national identification numbers of their parents to register,” Odongo emphasized.
