KUCCPS Suspends TTC Intake for 2025 KCSE Graduates

KUCCPS Suspends TTC Intake for 2025 KCSE Graduates

The government has suspended the admission of recent secondary school graduates into Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs). This policy update specifically affects candidates of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

The primary teacher education intake scheduled for September 2026 will be restricted exclusively to teachers upgrading from the P1 Certificate to the Diploma level. Recent high school graduates will not be eligible to enroll in primary education courses during this admission cycle.

Reasons for the Suspension

The Ministry of Education implemented this measure to manage a saturated job market. There is currently a high number of trained teachers awaiting deployment.

Continuing to admit new students into these programs would increase the current surplus of teaching professionals. Projections indicate this suspension may remain in effect for up to three years, allowing the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) time to employ the existing backlog of qualified graduates.

Alternative Educational Pathways

Students who intended to join TTCs are encouraged to explore alternative educational opportunities. The government has directed these candidates toward Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

TVET centers offer various professional courses that cater to different academic profiles and career goals. Further information regarding teaching qualifications and alternative routes can be accessed at teacher.co.ke.
