Chesamisi Boys Students Cause Unrest Following Zonal Games Defeat

On Sunday night, students from Chesamisi Boys High School in Bungoma County engaged in property damage and unrest following a 2-1 loss to St. Peters Nakalira High School during zonal school games.

The match took place at the Kamusinde Boys High School grounds. Reports indicate that the unrest began after students from the host school, Kamusinde, joined the Nakalira students in celebrating the victory.

Incidents at Kamusinde Boys High School

Later that night, Chesamisi students allegedly directed their frustration toward Kamusinde Boys High School. The Kamusinde administration posted a social media alert indicating that their campus was experiencing an incident. Local authorities intervened to manage the situation and restore order.

In response to the altercation, the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) indefinitely suspended all remaining sports fixtures at the Kamusinde grounds.

Damage to Adjacent Agricultural Property

During the unrest, the students also entered a nearby sugarcane plantation. A local farmer reported significant damage to his mature sugarcane crop, which was cut and trampled over several acres. The farmer has requested an investigation and compensation from local authorities and the Ministry of Education.

Local educational stakeholders have issued statements regarding the events, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and peaceful conflict resolution during inter-school competitions.
