Makerere Unievrsity has partnered with NIRA to issue National Identification Numbers (NINs) to its students.
In an effort to ensure that students get access to most of the government programs, bank services and preparation for life after campus, the university has set up a database for students to attain National Identification Numbers (NIN) in the shortest time possible.
This development was announced by the Dean of Students that is partnering with the National Registration Authority (NIRA) to aid students open up bank accounts and other necessary procedures that require a NIN.
“The dean of students’ office has requested NIRA for assistance in providing National Identification numbers to Makerere university students who have applied for national identity cards to facilitate the process of opening up bank accounts,’’ Ms Winifred Kabumbuli the Dean of students noted.
Students who are experiencing delays in acquiring NINs have been requested to register with dean of students’ office. Thereafter, a list will be submitted to NIRA in the shortest time possible.
Recently, National IDs have become an essential part of every citizen, as they are required to do or acquire almost everything. This is why students at lower levels like Ordinary and the Advanced levels in secondary schools have been urged to start the process of acquiring their own.
