KEMI Mandates Nationwide Virtual Career Guidance Training for Teachers

The Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) has directed all primary, junior, and senior school heads to nominate teachers for a mandatory, free virtual training session on career guidance scheduled for June 11, 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework across the country.

Directive Issued to School Heads

In a circular dated June 8, 2026, KEMI Chief Executive Officer Dr. Maurice Odondo instructed institutional heads to designate specific Career Guidance and Counselling Teachers for the two-hour evening program. The directive emphasized the critical role of school leadership in facilitating this capacity-building exercise to bolster career services.

Logistics and Technical Requirements

The virtual session will run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. KEMI will provide the training at no cost but requires all nominated educators to possess a reliable internet-enabled device. Official meeting links and detailed schedules will be distributed directly to the selected participants prior to the event.

Aligning with the CBE Framework

As the primary capacity-building agency for the Ministry of Education, KEMI conducts management training and research to support sector-wide reforms. The upcoming session aligns with national objectives to ensure students receive comprehensive career orientation early in their academic journeys under the evolving CBE curriculum.
