Commonest indiscipline cases in schools

In every school, there is a fair share of indiscipline cases, and that depends on a variety of factors that include;

  • Age of students
  • Location of school
  • Punishment rate of the school
  • Moral upbringing of the students
  • Student gender
  • Amount and kind of peer pressure

One thing for sure is, indiscipline cases are a threat to the peaceful state of the school. In this article, we take a look at the common indiscipline cases in most schools. They include;

1. Teasing and bullying

Normally, it’s the younger and/or newer students that fall victim to bullying and teasing. This involves things like;

  • Making bad jokes about them
  • Forcing them to do certain chores for them
  • Physically assaulting them
  • Destroying or forcefully taking their property

Bullying and teasing usually has effects on the victim’s mental health, confidence, composure and general interest in learning. Usually, the victims decide to quit the school and go somewhere else.

2. Escapism

Usually due to peer pressure, students escape and go out of school premises usually for fun and to indulge in immoral acts.

The only appropriate solution to this kind of crime is to expel the immoral students, because they can always find a way around the school’s security measures.

3. Drug abuse

This is where students indulge in the acquisition and consumption of addictive drugs. These include alcohol, marijuana, mira, cocaine etc.

This habit is addictive, and it can take control of your students and make them indulge in things like;

  • Sexual assault
  • Violence against fellow students
  • Missing classes on a regular basis
  • Vandalism of school property

Students that indulge in drug abuse usually don’t deserve a second chance. After their dismissal, it’s important for their parents to take them to rehabilitation centers for a chance to heal.

4. Assault of teachers

In secondary schools, students often undergo physical growth and increase in confidence. That’s why teachers are usually physically and verbally assaulted in secondary schools. But is age the only key player in this case? Certainly not!

Many students that are badly brought up, usually feel like they have a lot to prove to their teachers, which makes them insolent, and sometimes bold enough to attempt assaulting their teachers.

5. Fighting

Many schools set strict laws against fighting, and they come along with immense punishments. This is because fighting among students has effects like;

  • Injuries to students
  • Enmity and feuds that can have even worse long term effects
  • Death of either student in the fight
  • Commotion in school, as the fights attract lots of students to watch

Usually, punishments for fighting depend on the reason behind the fight, the provocateur, and the effects of the fight. That’s why some are expelled instantly, while others are given second chances.

6. Dodging classes

Students sometimes miss classes, either because of genuine reasons like illnesses or having to attend certain functions back home.

However, some students have become crafty enough to conjure up all these excuses so they can miss classes. Some also have great hiding spots that they go to during class time.

They do all this in effort to miss class whenever it feels inconvenient for them.

7. Possession of illegal items

Every school has its own list of items that they don’t want to see their students possess while in the premises. This is because these items could distract students from their studies. Examples include;

  • Electronic gadgets like phones
  • Non-uniform clothes
  • Drugs
  • Alcohol
  • Condoms
  • Weapons

Sometimes, possession of such items can pose a huge threat against the safety of students in the school, and that’s why teachers are always supposed to check every student’s belongings so as to avert the risk.

8. Boycott of school programs

The school has so many other programs besides classes. Some turn out a bit boring to students that they feel they can do without them. They include;

  • General cleaning/ sanitation
  • Assemblies
  • Sports
  • Roll calls
  • Prayers

Every school program is important, even though it might not seem like it, and that’s why students don’t have to miss them.

9. Exam malpractice

Academic excellence is the main goal of every student, but it only has to be earned. This is through things like reading, research and consultation. However, some students prefer to take shortcuts.

Examination malpractice is extremely dangerous to the school, as it can lead to extreme effects like cancellation of results in case students attempt to cheat during final examinations.

10. Sexual abuse

Sexual abuse is a common case in schools nowadays, and sometimes it can go unnoticed. There are so many reasons as to why students decide to explore their sexual capacity at a young age and they include;

  • Peer pressure
  • Lack of guidance
  • Exposure to pornography
  • Improper upbringing
  • If teachers are doing the same thing

Sexual misconduct can bring about some similarly bad consequences, even on the first try, and they include;

  • Spreading and catching STDs like AIDS
  • Early pregnancies
  • Damage of sexual organs if done wrongly

Conclusion;

These days, so many school administrators have taken the time to get organized and also hire like-minded people that can enforce the desired order. It really works, because some of the most extreme cases are almost unheard of – and in case any student commits these crimes, they are held without favor.
